    100% WASH Project

The 100% WASH Project is transforming access to safe water across Mufindi by combining infrastructure, local capacity, and behavior change. The program has constructed and rehabilitated water points, installed efficient pumping systems, and equipped schools and health centers with dependable supply, while strengthening Community-Based Water Supply Organizations (CBWSOs) and training village technicians to keep systems running. SWASH Clubs in schools lead hygiene education, handwashing, and soap-making —skills that students carry home—helping good habits spread across communities.

The health impact is clear: health workers report fewer cases of waterborne illness, and at Ifwagi Health Center severe childhood diarrhea cases dropped from 22 in 2023 to just 2 by September 2025. Families—especially women and children—no longer walk dangerous long distances to unprotected sources; time once spent fetching water is now used for learning, childcare, farming, and small businesses. In schools, reliable water and modern facilities have improved cleanliness and attendance; girls manage menstruation with dignity and confidence, and teachers report more focused learners.

Water access is also unlocking livelihoods. Households irrigate vegetables, water livestock, and in some cases produce bricks or traditional products for sale—improving food security and incomes and enabling contributions to school needs. At Udumka Primary School, students raise thousands of tree seedlings each season for planting and sale, turning water access into practical climate action that restores land, absorbs carbon, and supports school costs.

Overall, the project is improving health, strengthening education, reducing poverty, and increasing climate resilience—helping thousands of people build safer, more dignified, and more sustainable futures.
