Overview

People’s Development Forum (PDF) is a national non-profit organization founded in 2010 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. We are dedicated to empowering marginalized communities through people-centered, sustainable development. With a presence across multiple regions of mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, we work hand-in-hand with local authorities, communities, and partners to address the root causes of poverty and inequality.

Mission & Vision

The purpose behind our work and the vision for our future

Mission

To uplift marginalized communities across Tanzania, providing them with the resources, support, and opportunities needed to realize their full potential.
Since our inception in 2010, we have been dedicated to addressing the systemic challenges faced by these communities through strategic interventions in key areas such as child protection, WASH, agriculture and climate change mitigation, health promotion, and economic empowerment.
Our commitment to advocacy, collaboration, and innovation drives our efforts to create sustainable solutions and foster positive change. By empowering individuals and building resilient communities, we aim to contribute to the creation of a more just and equitable society where every person has the opportunity to thrive.

Vision

To create a Tanzania where marginalized individuals and communities are empowered to lead dignified and fulfilling lives, free from poverty, oppression, and injustice.
We envision a future where children are protected and nurtured, where access to clean water and sanitation is universal, where agriculture is sustainable and resilient to climate change, where health services are accessible and of high quality, and where economic opportunities are abundant and inclusive.
Through our collective efforts, we aspire to be catalysts for social transformation, driving systemic change and shaping a brighter future for generations to come.

Across Communities

Where we Work

PDF operates in diverse regions of mainland Tanzania, including Iringa, Njombe, Mbeya, Dodoma, Rukwa, Morogoro, and Dar es Salaam, and has also implemented programs in Zanzibar. Our headquarters are located in Dar es Salaam, enabling us to coordinate programs that reach both rural and peri-urban communities, creating impact at scale.

Our Thematic Focus

Expanding access to clean water, safe sanitation and hygiene practices — the foundation for health and dignity. We deliver WASH solutions that reach schools, communities, and healthcare facilities, improving lives and reducing preventable diseases.

Protecting children from violence, exploitation, and harmful practices. Our approach combines community structures, school-based initiatives, and youth-friendly services to ensure that every child grows up safe, nurtured, and empowered.

Supporting smallholder farmers, women, and youth to build resilient livelihoods through climate-smart agriculture, nutrition programs, and sustainable natural resource management.

Helping individuals and communities break cycles of poverty by building financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and legal empowerment.

Enhancing preventive healthcare, strengthening WASH in health facilities, and promoting reproductive, maternal, and child health services.
