Agriculture, Nutrition, Climate Change
PDF supports rural communities to strengthen food security, nutrition, and climate resilience through sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship. Our approach integrates household-level nutrition, climate adaptation, and livelihood development to ensure farmers and families are better prepared for shocks while improving their wellbeing.
We train farmers in climate-smart practices such as agroforestry, drip irrigation, crop diversification, organic pest management, and improved seed systems. Seedling propagation units help scale tree planting and reforestation, while market and finance linkages enable farmers to grow from subsistence to income-generating production.
At household level, kitchen gardens, small livestock, and maternal and child nutrition education improve diets and reduce malnutrition. To minimize post-harvest loss, we facilitate the use of processing and storage technologies such as solar dryers, cold rooms, and milling equipment.
Where possible, agriculture is integrated with water access from our WASH programs — enabling irrigation, tree nurseries, and nutrition gardens that multiply gains for households and schools. Our work is closely coordinated with local governments and aligned with national strategies to ensure long-term sustainability and scalability.
PDF also leads community actions in reforestation, watershed protection, and renewable energy solutions to conserve natural resources and mitigate climate change. By combining food system development with resilience building, gender inclusion, and environmental protection, we help families grow stronger today while safeguarding their future.
